Synopsis:
Set during the 11th-century war between England and Denmark, Vinland Saga Season 1 follows a young Icelandic boy named Thorfinn who joins the mercenary band of Askeladd—the man who murdered his noble father, Thors. Consumed by a blind desire for vengeance, Thorfinn spends years fighting on bloody European battlefields earning the right to duel Askeladd, while the clever mercenary secretly acts as a surrogate father figure. The overarching political conflict shifts dramatically when Askeladd captures Prince Canute of Denmark; this forces Canute to undergo a ruthless transformation to claim the English throne, culminating in Askeladd sacrificing his own life to secure Canute's rule and stripping Thorfinn of his singular reason to live.
